ACCESS STATEMENT
Woodcombe Lodges site is accessed by a slightly sloped drive, reception is in the entrance to Woodcombe Lodge House, this is via 3 steps – but on arrival if mobility is a problem just sound horn, as we will be expecting you, we will come out and direct you to your accommodation.
Woodcombe Lodges consists of two Cottages and six Lodges with Laburnum, Cherry and Holly all being wheelchair accessible
The Cottages are situated in a wing of our house with parking at the top of our drive. There is a level path leading around the rear of our house to Rose Cottage, and further on around to the front of the wing to April Cottage.
Rose Cottage – is via a small step into the living room. Inside there is also a small step into the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. This accommodation is not recommended for wheel chair users.
April Cottage , is also accessed via a step, the living room/kitchen is on the ground floor. There are steep stairs leading up to the two bedroom. This accommodation is not recommended for wheel chair users or the very elderly, a stair gate can be provided for small children.
We also have six Lodges situated within our three acre garden.
Access to these is by a level gravelled drive way, off the main drive which is tarmac.
We describe the access to each of these lodges individually with Holly, Laburnum and Cherry being wheelchair accessible.
Parking – all lodges have parking spaces adjacent to them, with all having space for two cars.
Pine Tree Lodge – Gravel path from car to veranda, two shallow steps onto veranda. Double door into lodge. All accommodation is on the ground floor. There is insufficient room for a wheel chair user.
Cedar Lodge – The same design as Pine Tree with a gravel path from car to veranda with two shallow steps onto the veranda. There is one door into the lodge. All accommodation is on the ground floor. There is insufficient room for a wheel chair user.
Yew Tree Lodge – is of the same design with parking by the side and with two shallow steps onto the veranda. All accommodation is on the ground floor. There is insufficient room for a wheel chair user.
Laburnum Lodge – mobility rating – M2
Laburnum can sleep up to 6 people.
There is a ramp for wheel chairs at the side of the lodge where the cars can be parked.
Access into the lodge – all accommodation is on the ground floor via a wide door into the living area. The kitchen and living room are open plan and there is plenty of space.
There is a bathroom which does not have disabled access.
There is a wheel in shower room, which has a pull down seat if needed and there are also a grab handles to the shower, toilet and basin. The shower room is En-suite to the large bedroom which has linked twin beds. A shower wheelchair is supplied.
There are three bedrooms. The twin/linked and double bedrooms have space for a wheel chair. The standard twin bedroom is not accessible to a wheel chair. A profile bed and a hoist could access the main twin bedroom but it is likely one of the twin beds would need to be stored on it’s side.
Cherry Tree Lodge – Mobility rating – M1
Cherry can be accessed either by two steps onto the veranda, or by a ramp which is at the side of the lodge from where the car is parked.
There are double doors into the living room, with plenty of width for a wheel chair. The living room and kitchen are open plan so accessibility for a wheel chair is no problem. All accommodation is ground floor
There is a main bathroom wet room, with a pull down support by the side of the toilet, plus a grab handle the other side. There is a full size wet room with shower, grab handles and a shower wheel chair provided
There is a double bedroom, with sufficient space for a wheel chair one side of the bed. The en-suite shower room to the double bedroom is not accessible to a wheel chair. The shower has a five inch step to access.
There is also a twin room with sufficient space for a wheel chair. There is not space for a profile bed to be hired.
Holly Lodge – mobility rating – M2
Holly is our largest lodge which can sleep up to 10 people.
There is a ramp for wheel chairs at the side of the lodge where the cars can be parked.
Access into the lodge – all accommodation is on the ground floor via double doors into the living area. The kitchen and living room are open plan and there is plenty of space.
There is a bathroom which has the pull down support by the side of the toilet, plus a grab handle on the wall, and sufficient space to manoeuvre a wheel chair.
There is a wheel in shower wet room with shower wheel chair provided. And there is also a grab handle to the shower. It it is recommended to use the main bathroom toilet as the toilet is tight to the wall so while accessible does not have drop down bars on both sides.
There is also an en-suite bathroom to one of the double bedrooms, but this is not wheel chair accessible.
There are four bedrooms. Both double bedrooms have space for a wheel chair. There is also space in one of the twin rooms. Hire of profile beds and full access with hoists may involve the storage of one of the beds on it’s side in the room.
The twin bedroom has an electric adjustable bed but this is not a full profile bed.
General Information
We recommend you telephone us to check availability. We suggest you discuss with us any special needs you may have and we will be more than happy to help and will recommend the most suitable accommodation for your needs. We will always answer your questions honestly as we never wish a guest to be disappointed by their experience at Woodcombe. We can assist with unloading and reloading your car if this is needed.
Games Room – access through double doors from a concrete path without a step. Access for this path is from the gravel drive by the side of Cherry Tree Lodge.
Laundry Room – Accessed by one step across a short lawn.
Our gardens are mainly lawn and shrub borders.
All the verandas are south facing and have beautiful views, which wheel chair users can enjoy.
FIRE PRECAUTIONS AND ESCAPE PROCEDURES
All accommodation is fitted with linked smoke and heat alarms together with small fire extinguishers and fire blankets.
The use of candles, tealights and any naked flames within the properties are prohibited. It is recommended that all doors are closed at night.
Escape recommendations are set out below for each property and guests are asked to immediately exit the property on discovery of a fire or in the case of an alarm sounding, close all doors, call 999 and inform the owners. What three words location specifications are displayed on each notice board.
Cherry, Pine, Cedar and Yew Tree Lodges
First escape exit is through the main door. The route passes through the open plan living area and the edge of the kitchen which is the most likely place for a hazard to start so in the case your route is blocked exiting through the fully opening windows in each room is advised. Pushing the bed close to the window will aid exit but care must be taken dropping to the ground. A small folding set of steps can be provided on request for storing in your bedroom if you have mobility concerns to help you get down to the ground safely.
Laburnum Lodge
First escape exit is through the main door. The route passes through the open plan living area and the edge of the kitchen which is the most likely place for a hazard to start so in the case your route is blocked exit through the wheelchair accessible door in the rear twin bedroom. In the case that you cannot reach either exit you are asked to exit through the fully opening ground floor windows. Pushing the bed close to the window will aid exit but care must be taken dropping to the ground. A small folding set of steps can be provided on request for storing in your bedroom if you have mobility concerns to help you get down to the ground safely.
Holly Lodge
First escape exit is through the main door. The route passes through the open plan living area and the edge of the kitchen if you are in the two rear bedrooms which is the most likely place for a hazard to start so in the case your route is blocked exit through the fully opening ground floor windows. Pushing the bed close to the window will aid exit but care must be taken dropping to the ground. A small folding set of steps can be provided on request for storing in your bedroom if you have mobility concerns to help you get down to the ground safely.
Guests staying in the two other bedrooms can exit through the exit door at the far end of the living room although the bedroom windows can be used if necessary as above.
Those with limited mobility must ensure they have considered their personal exit plan if using the rear bedrooms. Those using the far end bedroom have a wheelchair accessible exit within one meter of their bedroom door onto a veranda with a portable ramp supplied just inside the door to descend the 20cm drop from the veranda. The ramp can be deployed in advance of it guests feel it necessary.
Guests are asked to ensure they are happy with their exit plans before booking and are welcome to discuss the plans with us in advance.
April Cottage
Exit is by the main door which is along the landing and down the stairs. The ground floor living room is separated by a door which must be kept closed at night to protect the escape route.
Rose Cottage
Exit is via the main door which is a few steps from the bedroom and well away from the kitchen It is still recommended that the kitchen door is closed at night.
